We had never had an eco pool before we built a new house in Bishopscourt. We thought we would be most exited about the house itself, but the pool has literally been the best thing we did by far with the entire building project. The whole system, planted pools and swim zone, was bigger than I had thought we needed but now I see it is the most wonderful thing about it. It feels like a piece of magic in a city garden with different pools all linked together. The swim zone is crystal clear all of the time while the planted areas are full of life, beautiful flowering lilies down to edible water cress growing in the clear shallows.
Eco pools have been unbelievably professional throughout . The planning was meticulous, the creation carried out with no fuss and the end product is perfect. Swimming in it feels like swimming in a Table Mountain stream.
The after sales service has been equally impressive. We have a monthly contract and Eco Pools comes for a whole day to monitor the water, replant items, remove the plant debris and make sure it is running perfectly.
I can’t recommend the idea and the execution through Eco Pools highly enough.
I am delighted to provide this reference for our EcoPool installed approximately four years ago and maintained ever since. EcoPools are meticulous professionals who are clear experts in their field. They designed and built us a wonderful EcoPool, and have ensured the smooth running of our pool despite our embarrassing inability to do any maintenance ourselves. Beyond his consummate reliability and professionalism, David Roberts is a really nice person. He regularly goes above and beyond the call of duty in optimising our pool, and he always acts with complete integrity and good humour. I wholeheartedly recommend EcoPools– we thank our lucky stars we found them!
Sometimes in life, you get something way above and beyond what you expected.
On a sincere note could not be happier with the pool. We have officially started an ecosystem for bees who use the eco zone as a drinking hole. The birds are flocking in to drink from the swimming pool and the fish (yes we put four into the swim zone) are getting bigger each day.
I have little maintenance to do and note that a brush twice a month in the swim zone with the churned water running through the sand filter works a charm. The passive skimmer is a must because it works exceptionally well and cleaning up leaves is done in the pump house with a kitchen sieve. I await the rains to see how the algae levels are balanced by the eco zone but I notice that as the plants establish themselves more and more so it becomes more effective. The bark is a must, I see the algae gets trapped behind on the outside and the sun dries it out and kills it so I guess this helps a lot in terms of algae control. All in all its such a wonderful system.
I love nothing more than to know its 100% natural with not a single chemical in site. The pessimists who hung around during construction are now eating their words. 1 Jason – 0 Them. I really appreciate the care and thought that went into building the pool. Nothing was an issue for you and you interpreted our vision perfectly. I know this pool was a challenge because the eco zone was split from the pool zone but it works superbly well. The water is crystal clear to the extent that it looks like the fish are floating and I even went as far as drinking a glass of water straight out of the swim zone. This was my litmus test for success.
Needless to say had no issues and one can honestly say the taste of the water reminds me of the old days when we used to swim in the rivers in the Drakensberg mountains. It was a great experience and best of all we not only built a pool but we also had a major garden landscape overhaul with the eco zone looking so beautiful given its fountains and all. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Happy to be an ambassador for Eco Pools so anytime you need to convince someone send them to my house. I will make short work of the merits associated to building a pool.
I have always been a swimmer and over time have swum in every kind of body of water imaginable. Lakes, the farm dam, rivers, rock pools, warm oceans, cold oceans and many, many pools. Inflatable pools, those big, blobby blue stand-on-the-ground pools, chlorinated pools, tidal pools, fibreglass pools, the school pool, olympic size pools, fancy hotel pools, indoor pools, heated pools and since moving into our new house, an EcoPool that Jerome built.
No other swimming experience comes close. Swimming in our pool with plants all around, the frog choir on standby and the soft, clear water on your skin is absolutely blissful. It really is unlike any pool I have ever swum in and if I didn’t have a life to run, I would probably stay in there all day.
EcoPools made my 10 year long dream of having an eco-fresh water pool in my garden come true. We now have a pool with crystal clear water all year round, with no algae and with lush water plants in the ecozone. The system works very well, the low energy pump consumes very little energy and the pool requires very little maintenance. Our dogs prefer drinking water from the pool above any other water source in the garden.
The system is well engineered and designed to ensure simple cleaning of the natural filtration system every few months or so. Birds and insects are attracted to the pool and provide us with a lot of joy. Once I have enough money saved up, I will also convert our big swimming pool into an EcoPool. No more chlorine or other chemicals / cheaper to run pump, low maintenance – a no-brainer.”
I had an old concrete and fiberglass pool that I was fed up with. It leaked, it needed huge amounts of chemicals which were seeping into the garden, I hated the feeling of pouring money and chemicals away endlessly. Because of the chemicals I really didn’t enjoy swimming that much anyway. The pool was always dirty and so I never used it. My original plan was to fill it in… and then I met Jerome. Now I absolutely adore my pool. I swim all the time. I don’t have to add chemicals, it no longer leaks and it is a constant source of fascination to me.
I absolutely love my natural pool. The first thing I do every morning, is to go see what new life has appeared overnight: a new flower, a dragon fly, a frog, a crab, even a turtle once. In summer I swim every day to keep my hair soft. I have stopped using conditioners. Unfortunately I am moving away soon out of town and I am heartbroken to leave the pool. But as soon as I have settled in to my new place, the first thing I will do is ask EcoPools to come and put in a new EcoPool.
A few years back I made a decision to build an eco-pool instead of the normal swimming pool. Not knowing much about how eco-pools are built or maintained, I was a little apprehensive about the choice I made. Fortunately David Roberts was allocated to my project, working with David was such a pleasure. David took the time to understand my specific needs, guided me when required and despite my lack of knowledge took my thoughts and views into consideration. He has a great work ethic, and I found that he was someone I could trust to when it came to managing the costs of the project and delivering as promised.
The plant choices, the efficiency and capabilities of the pumps and filtering systems, the technicalities of ensuring everything worked as it should, were addressed with minimum fuss and where there may have been minor glitches, David was extremely professional in providing input and assisting in fixing them.
I also received immense support in learning how to maintain and take care of the pool on a day to day basis. I accordingly highly recommend David and his team. He is someone who takes great pride in what he does and his knowledge and dedication to his craft will ensure that you have the eco-pools of your dreams.
Vivien Horler, Lakeside:
It was a pleasure doing business with you.
Lesley and Kevin Hohne, Gauteng:
We would like to pass on our thanks for the conversion you did last year on our swimming pool. The interest you showed in giving us the pool we wanted was truly appreciated and on your ongoing support as well. We are thrilled with the outcome, not only is it beautiful and tranquil but so much less work than the old pool. We have done minimal maintenance through winter and only topped up with water once but the pool is still very clear and plants are doing well. Thanks again for the great job and sharing your expertise.
John Green, Tokai:
I am delighted with the end result. It has met and exceeded my expectations of having a natural “rock” pool in the garden. All agree that swimming in natural water is an exhilarating experience.
Colleen Bekke, Gauteng:
Hi David (EcoPools Gauteng), This letter serves not only as a letter of reference, but also a THANK-YOU for my beautiful EcoPool! The pool has settled down beautifully now, and I can honestly say that nothing has ever given me as much joy on a daily basis as the conversion from my previous chlorinated pool has done.
The plants are thriving, I have so many birds and butterflies in my garden now, and the pool is an absolute pleasure to swim in – No more itchy skin or green hair My dogs and cats also refuse to drink from their water bowls any longer; it’s EcoPool water or nothing.
You remained relentless in giving me my dream, keeping calm and staying focused on the end goal. I wish there were more service providers that displayed as much passion for their work as you do.
I recommend David and EcoPools without hesitation! They are professional company, met deadlines and came in on budget, which is is a rare occurrence in this day and age.
George Swingler, Tokai:
We just love the pool! We’ve been meaning to send you photos for some time, but there always seems to be a reason to wait because something else is developing. At just over 18 months since you commenced and completed our eco pool experience I believe we need to thank you somewhat more the cursorily. The concept of an eco pool was initially quite a daunting one as it is still somewhat left of field but with your constant enthusiasm we absorbed some of your belief in the concept and now 18 months later we have the most impressive pool that is a joy not only to swim in but also visually exceptionally satisfying.
Stuart Grant, Bedfordview:
Having then taken the plunge (pun intended) we took another step forward and have landscaped the entire terrace with Highveld grasses and bulbs, the result is a lovely living area that has increased bird and insect life – happiness for all.
I trust that your boundless energy will bode well for your business and should you ever wish to bring potential clients around to see the final result it will be our pleasure.
Inéz Rossou, Johannesburg:
I just want to thank you for your excellent service in converting my swimming pool into an ecopool. It was a joy interacting with you and your professional team. Your prompt responses and first-time spot-on solutions helped to make the process a smooth and effortless one. In spite of the distance from Johannesburg to Welkom, you delivered an excellent product without any hassles for me. I love the ecopool and I am recommending you and the product without hesitation.

Philippa and John Higgins, Rosebank:
We are in the pool so much that the family is now known as the Hippo Higginses. We call the pool the “Hippo Hole”.

The pool is clear, it is beautiful, it is absolutely perfect. Perfect. The pool is great! It is such a pleasure to enjoy the water and the plants growing. I recommend having an EcoPool to many people. And very good service.
Tisha Cummings, Angala Boutique Hotel, Boland:
Europeans are loving the pool. One German guy told Aubrey this week after a swim, that he does not shower so that the feeling of the water lingers all day. How about that!
Kitty Cooper, Greenpoint:
I wouldn’t swim in anything less.
Ruth Mesarcik, Constantia:
It was Bob’s birthday last Saturday night. Everybody was drinking champagne. Bob drank nothing but water from the new EcoPool. Every time his glass was empty, he would refill it from the pool. Needless to say, Bob felt a lot better than the rest of us the next morning.
Nana Staelblom, Tarragona Estate, Hout Bay:
We have had the pond/pool for almost 5 years now. It was a rectangular swimming pool which EcoPools converted into a fresh water pond. It is on EcoPools web page – called Tarragona Estates. We have had no problems with the pool itself – the only problem was with an existing rock over which we wanted the water to flow – and the water kept seeping away. The pool never has algae and is clear all the time. The pool very much does it’s own thing – winter and summer, and only when the wind has been howling – then I need to clear the leaves out – but I do check the filter box every other day, and clean the filters about every 4 to 6 weeks.
The quality of the water is amazing and eyes and body feel great after a dip. No problems at all. I would only really caution people about what plants the put in as some of them do take over – which requires extra weeding – therefore work – but EcoPools should be able to advise you on that. I would highly recommend a natural pool to everybody and EcoPools have been amazing with the installation (conversion) and maintenance. I certainly recommend them.
Lauren & James Norval, Knysyna:
When we first started out with this project, we knew more about what we didn’t want than what we wanted. We knew we didn’t want a blue sterile pool and we didn’t want chemicals in our garden. What we ended up with is far more than we anticipated. Building the pool was an entirely enjoyable process. We now not only have a clear, fresh water pool to swim in but an amazing sanctuary in the garden.
A truly living system where beautiful plants grow, animals and birds visit and dragon flies have made the pool their home. The pool maintenance is a pleasure, where our young kids get involved in ‘weeding’ the pool. The pool has all the aspects of nurturing, caring for and protecting a truly unique system. Thanks Jerome.
Tanja Hichert, Somerset West:
Our pool is BEAUTIFUL!!!!! We cannot believe that such an amazing miracle of nature is possible, never mind on our stoep. Thank you.
Carl Wesserlink, Rosebank, Cape Town:
If there was a Nobel prize for swimming pools, mine would be a winner.
Hein Enselin, Hartebeespoort:
I read your newsletter and was thinking: this is a bit over the top. But then I thought about it and realised: “Hold on, I do love my pool. I stare at it for hours a day – and my pool does love me!”
Janina Masojada, Durban:
A glorious swim. We are so enjoying the experience. The only alternative swim is the sea!
Ans Van Heinsbergen, Hout Bay:
I realised that the pool is complete and whole living organism, just like a human being. Thank you for the enlightenment.
Barry Cleveland, Marina DaGama:
The pool is perfect. The pool just carries on going with very little effort on our part. It is always perfectly clear and clean. We love using it all the time. We mix the water from the pool with our whiskey. You owe yourselves a pat on the back.
Jan and Sheila Hofmeyer, Hout Bay:
The water is crystal clear. The ‘feel’ for swimming is fantastic – it’s much softer on the skin. The growth in the [ecosystem] is beautiful. During summer the ponds are quickly populated by small creatures who play a part in the system. There are no mosquitoes. It is all fascinating to observe.
Mike Davis, Hout Bay:
Hi Guys, just to show you how stunning the finished product is, of your amazing pool. Awesome, well done.
Fiona Quartermain, Tamboerskloof:
I love my pool, and have some beautiful visitors – awesome blue dragonflies, and sometimes red ones. We also have more birds than before, but the most amazing at present is the singing (yip I know it’s croaking) of the frogs at night. We’ve always heard them, and every so often see one in the garden, but now they are an awesome nightly chorus. I know mine is probably one of the smallest of your creations, but everyone is welcome to come to check it out (and listen).
Rachel Brown, Botrivier:
Dear EcoPools, my appreciation and thanks for creating such a splendid water feature for my house in Bot River. I am thrilled with it and so, so pleased that I pursued this dream.
I want to particularly thank and acknowledge the extraordinarily careful, considerate and thoughtful services provided by the EcoPools staff yesterday. Their complimentary service was extraordinary as they delivered so much more than I was expecting. Their work was a pleasure to behold. I am totally impressed with them.
Being from Bot River I realise that I am not a drop-in finished project, but if you are coming this way for another project you are most welcome to visit and capture the beautiful work of Toufiq and his team for your records/website.
Debra West, Sun Valley:
I am extremely happy with the pool – My garden is alive with dragonflies, damselflies and birds. Although the initial outlay was quite high, I would not changed a thing. It is the central point of my garden and has allowed me to recreate the entire environment into a living, breathing Eden. Out with the lawn, in with the indigenous fynbos! The pool is my favorite part of all the house renovations.
Hilary Adams, Constantia:
My eco pool has been the source of much wonder and pleasure for me and all who visit here. Thank you.
